Fresh Starts: January 2022

January 1st; A New Year.

For one reason or another, us humans find it much easier to hit reset at a specific time like the new year. Magically, the slate seems has been wiped clean. We lose some of the baggage we have been carrying for 300 something days. We have forward facing perspective. Let’s go.

I for one love a clean slate and the possiblity that the new year brings. It’s always an exciting time.

But your brain and mine have the ability to hit “refresh” at any given moment.

You can wipe the slate clean mid way through a year. You can turn your week around on a Thursday afternoon at 2.30pm. You can change the way a workout is going half way through. Even if the first half has been terrible and today’s “just not your day”.

Fresh starts don’t have to be to anchored to a specific moment on a linear time line. You can turn on a dime.

The challenge as you head into 2022 is to keep THAT in mind.

When you get to mid Feb and the awesome sounding, fun goal you set yourself is taking a ton of time, energy, commitment, sacrifice and a bucketful of hard work to achieve.
When you’ve dropped the ball a few times, and theres a pattern of missed commitments starting to appear.
Remember that those hard moments are part of the process of any worthy goal. Remember that even if you’ve dropped the ball, fresh starts don’t have to wait for next January 1st. Or next Monday. Or tomorrow. You can turn it all around in a moment.
